Statement of Significance (as of designation - June 19, 1996):
Leap-the-Dips is the last known example of a Side-Friction Figure
Eight roller coaster. Side Friction Figure Eight roller coasters
were once common in amusement parks across North America as well as
in parks in other parts of the world.
The Side Friction Figure Eight type of coaster represented an
important stage in the technological evolution of the roller coaster.
