STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE (as of designation - December 22, 1977):
Balboa Park includes some of the finest Spanish-Baroque Revival
structures in America. The Park was constructed for the
Panama-California Exposition in 1915 and enlarged for the
California-Pacific Internation Exposition in 1935.
Although there is still some deterioration of the reconstructed
buildings, other issues such as accessibility have been addressed. The
City has established a review procedure that allows for NPS and SHPO
comments on projects within the NHL park boundaries.
